Our Approach
Creating homes with soul and substance is what drew Elizabeth to interior design, and what continues to drive her as the principal and founder of EKD. She began her career at Holly Hunt and later worked alongside interior designer Tracy Hickman. Both shaped her eye, her process, and the standards she brings to every project.
Founded in 2012, Elizabeth has grown her Chicago-based practice into a nationally recognized firm spanning new construction, renovation, and furnishing. Her work has been featured in Architectural Digest, ELLE Decor, Luxe, and Traditional Home, and she is a member of the Leaders of Design Council.
What sets Elizabeth apart is her ability to capture the essence of her clients and transform their vision into high design. She doesn't impose a singular aesthetic. She draws out what her clients already love — then refines, elevates, and layers it into something beyond what they imagined.
With deep roots in construction and architecture, Elizabeth brings a level of expertise that goes far beyond interiors. Growing up in a family of builders and developers, she understands the nuances of home building from the inside out. She partners closely with architects, builders, and craftspeople from the earliest planning stages through final installation — bridging the creative vision with technical execution. Clients trust her to advocate for them at every stage and protect their investment, because she understands what's behind the walls as well as what's in front of them. Erin Fischer
Director of Operations
Building authentic relationships, implementing efficient processes, and providing superior customer service are just a few of Erin's priorities as the Director of Operations at Elizabeth Krueger Design. Her background in project management, marketing, and business development means she approaches every client engagement with the same level of intention and care as the design itself.
Before joining EKD, Erin led branding and marketing at a Chicago-based consulting firm, overseeing content, campaigns, and lead generation from start to finish. That experience translated naturally — she streamlined EKD's internal processes and helped elevate the brand from the inside out.
Sourcing inspiration from art, fashion, typography, and music, she has a deep appreciation for how interior design contributes to our lives. Erin describes her own aesthetic as "the harmonious marriage between layers of neutral tones and pieces with dramatic flair."

Cathy Kaczmarek
Procurement Manager
Cathy manages order placement, project logistics, and vendor relationships across the entire firm. She oversees vendor communication, quality control, issue resolution, and scheduling — her attention to detail and drive keep every project moving.
Prior to joining EKD, she gained deep experience in procurement at Holly Hunt. She also spent time as a buyer in the food industry, which sharpened the methodical approach she brings to the many moving parts she manages today.
Outside of work she flexes her creative side through her never-ending list of house projects, gardening, holistic health, and planning activities with her son.

Janelle Kando
Senior Designer
With a cup of coffee in hand and a talent for creating evocative spaces, Janelle leads projects at EKD with equal parts intuition and precision. She has deep experience across a wide range of residential projects and provides the kind of guidance and support that keeps clients confident throughout the entire design process.
Prior to joining EKD, she worked at Holly Hunt as a Merchandise Planner for textiles, leather, trim, and rugs, while simultaneously leading photoshoots and production of marketing materials for all showrooms and clients. Her understanding of materials at that level continues to inform every project she touches.
Finding inspiration in travel, art, and nature, Janelle creates designs that are functional, beautifully styled, and always a reflection of each client's personal vision.
