Striking Bucktown Residence

A young family bought this Bucktown home and began making it theirs almost at once. What started as a few small updates grew, over seven years, into a full renovation of nearly every room — planned as one vision from the start, so a continuous thread runs through every space.

A foundation of warm neutrals runs through the house, punctuated by deep blue — sapphire and inky navy turning up in the cabinetry, the island, the art, room after room. Within that calm, the family was open to risk, the kind of bold, high-impact choices that give each room its own striking moment. The living room is where it lands hardest. A custom wallcovering of abstract clouds sets the backdrop for Jean Alexander Frater's 'Pink Mound,' saturated and textural, walking the line between painting and sculpture.

Seven years of bold choices, and not one they'd take back.
